Be Cyber Secure Grant and Support Benefits Kidderminster Traffic Management Company

The Be Cyber Secure programme offers cyber security support and cyber growth grants to SMEs in Worcestershire, helping them to grow their business, whilst maximising their cyber security.

Kidderminster based Signal Traffic Management Ltd recently received support and funding via the Be Cyber Secure programme.

The Challenge

Founded in 2012, Signal Traffic Management Ltd provide a comprehensive range of temporary traffic and pedestrian management services in Worcestershire and throughout the United Kingdom. The company has great growth potential and recently moved to new premises.

Whilst the company has grown steadily, Signal Traffic Management Ltd did not have much of an IT infrastructure in place and weren’t fully aware of the issues that they were facing. As they grew to be a more established business, they found that they were experiencing more IT related problems and decided to employ an IT company.

Although outsourcing their IT to a specialist company brought more information on the IT issues they were encountering, Signal Traffic Management Ltd felt a need to better understand the problems.

The Solution

Through the Be Cyber Secure programme, Signal Traffic Management Ltd received a comprehensive package of cyber security support, which helped them to gain Cyber Essentials Certification. Through this, they gained a broader overview of what was required for the business in terms of IT infrastructure, how to run their IT systems, and how to protect their business from cyber security threats.

With the cyber growth grant accessed through Be Cyber Secure, Signal Traffic Management Ltd purchased new IT equipment, replacing old hardware that was equipped with Windows & and Windows Home editions. The grant was also used to purchase a server, considerably increasing the business’s storage capacity.

The Results

Through gaining Cyber Essentials Certification and updating their IT infrastructure, Signal Traffic Management Ltd have not only strengthened the security of their business and increased their understanding of cyber security, they have also increased the efficiency of their business.

Kerry Bannister, General Manager, said “Through the support and funding that we received through the Be Cyber Secure Programme, we have been able to increase our efficiency. In turn, this has allowed us to push the business forward faster, tender for more work, and employ more people in the local area.”

“We have grown quite considerably and have quite a large number of staff who use our new IT equipment, so the Be Cyber Secure programme has had a lot of benefit to us.”

With the business now functioning with a much higher level of efficiency and security, Signal Traffic Management Ltd certainly have the potential to continue to grow at an increased rate.
