Careers & Enterprise Fund

The Careers & Enterprise Fund was set up to ensure that all young people are given multiple encounters with the fast-changing world of work.

In 2018, we are continuing to focus our funding where it is needed most across England. We aim to scale up many existing, effective careers and enterprise programmes, and test and evaluate best practice in careers activity provision for young people in disadvantaged groups. We do this to ensure that young people’s futures are not determined by their backgrounds or different needs.

The Careers & Enterprise Fund 2018

In the Careers & Enterprise Fund 2018 (CEF2018) we will allocate £4.2 million of investment focusing on geographical areas of need and targeting the most disadvantaged young people. The fund is split in two parts.

Part A – Employer Encounters: We will invest £2.5 million in programmes selected by schools and colleges in 35 areas of need. The schools and colleges will be offered access to ‘virtual wallets’ to make these selections.

  • £1.25 million will be invested in 10 Careers Hubs
  • £1.25 million will be invested in 25 areas of disadvantage

Part B – Disadvantaged groups:  £1.7 million will be invested for disadvantaged groups, identified by the Department for Education, to understand how to most effectively support these young people. The groups of focus are:

  • Young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • Children in care and care leavers
  • Gypsy, Roma and traveller young people
