DEFRA GRANTS AVAILABLE 2023

Launching in March, a series of grants have been made available by DEFRA – Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and partners, supporting farmers and businesses in the sector.

The team at Worcestershire Growth Hub can support your business to access these new grants.

Below is a summary of the various grants available.

Grants available at time of publications:

  • Grants to start a research project – applications close Wednesday 8 of March 2023 at 11am
  • Grants for automation and robotics – available until 15 March 2023
  • Grants for research and development to develop a new technology or service – competition closes on 19 April 2023
  • Grants for equipment to support productivity and slurry management – Available until 4 April 2023
  • Grants to support tree health – available through the pilot until it ends in 2024
  • Grants to fund a yearly vet visit – you can now register for a vet visit
  • Grants to support farming in protected landscapes – You can now apply until March 2025 based on the successful first year and a half

Grants available through Countryside Stewardship

  • Grants to improve boundaries, trees and orchards, water quality, air quality and natural flood management – you can apply for these grants at any time of the year
  • Grants to improve environmentally significant sites and woodlands – you can apply for these grants at any time of the year
  • Grants to improve woodland infrastructure and protection from beaver activity – you can apply for these grants at any time of the year
  • Grants to improve the management of woodlands – you can apply for this one-off payment at any time of the year
  • Grants to improve the health of trees – you can apply for these one-off payments at any time of the year

Grants coming this year: a forward look

  • Grants to support animal health and welfare – available in March 2023, through the Farming Equipment Technology Fund, which is part of the Farming Investment Fund
  • Grants to support cattle housing – available in Summer 2023, through the Farming Transformation
  • Grants for other infrastructure projects – available later this year, through the Farming Transformation Fund
  • Grants to support slurry infrastructure – first round of applications closed in January. Planned to open another round later this year
  • Grants to support water management- available in Spring 2023, through the Farming Investment Fund
  • Grants to work on long-term farming innovation – competition to open in May 2023 as part of the Farming Innovation Programme
  • Grants for research and development, to develop a new technology or service – competition opens in August 2023 as part of the Farming Innovation Programme
  • Grants for research and development to check if an innovative idea works in practice – competition opens in September 2023 as part of the Framing Innovation Programme
  • Grants to run on-farm trials assessing the viability of new technology, processes and practices – available in autumn 2023, through the Framing Innovation Programme
