A special day of activities has launched two key initiatives focussed on helping innovative Worcestershire businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive.

WINN (Worcestershire Innovation) hosted their annual ‘Great Things’ event at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium on June 18th, with more than 200 local businesses in attendance.

The day began with a ‘meet the buyers’ breakfast event hosted by ‘Find It Worcestershire’ looking at how assistive technology can be developed for use in social care environments. This was followed by a busy schedule of workshops and talks including sessions focused on topics including 5G, artificial intelligence, finance, health and nanotech – plus an appearance from Optimus Prime!

The evening session celebrated priority sectors including agri-tech, cyber & IT, advanced manufacturing and medical technology, with speakers including Mettis Aerospace and Harper Adams University.

Jacqui Edwards, a Senior Lecturer at Worcesterniversity said: “I found the event useful from a point of view of meeting regional press and business contacts, highlighting the work we do in Game Development at the University, as well as our young entrepreneurs who gained valuable experience of networking and talking to businesses.”

The event was used to launch two new support programmes that offer budding entrepreneurs in the region the opportunity to gain funding and professional advice.

The ‘Make it Happen Challenge’ offers innovative local businesses the chance to win a £15,000 package for their innovative idea. The package includes a £5k cash prize supplemented by expert business support from specialists in marketing, finance, legal and other key sectors.

WINN are also welcoming applicants to join the ‘Innovation Launch Pad’, offering future-thinking Worcestershire businesses the chance to learn from cutting-edge innovators and subject specialists.

This programme is comprised of two mission critical phases, the first bringing together like-minded local entrepreneurs into a new exploratory space where they can create, develop and define new ideas. The second phase offers six hours of bespoke professional support delivered at the premises of each business participating, guided by specialist advisors.
