IQHQ is an SME in Malvern which supports the defence communications, intelligence, surveillance and security markets. Founded by Neil Bourhill in 2010, the business is now firmly planting its own footsteps in the local and national Defence and Security industry.
Since the company’s inception it has seen continued success. Already the company has successfully received a number of grants to accelerate its development, one of these being the Proof of Concept Fund, introduced by Worcestershire Business Central.
The fund exists to support SMEs to investigate, advance, commercialise and protect early stage innovative business ideas, providing up to 50% of the total cost of a project to a maximum contribution of £30,000. In 2016, IQHQ were successful in their application, receiving £20,000 to develop a prototype of the Nano, the smallest radio produced by the company.
Neil said: “The response we have had for the prototype has been amazing. The development has led to a new contract which has kick-started a new phase for the business as we move from research into manufacturing. To support our growth, we will also be able to employ two design engineers and two high-tech manufacturers going forward.”
To meet the demand, the company are now turning their current building into a manufacturing unit and are moving into an additional building on Malvern Hills Science Park. Complete with a presentation room for demonstrations, this new building will become the face of the company.
IQHQ have exhibited at four Defence and Security shows this year. A recent show saw the company give away 120 business cards and 110 brochures. The team received 40 business cards from potential customers and made some strong leads.
Neil commented: “Worcestershire Business Central has been an important partner in IQHQ’s growth, enabling us to discuss business development, signposting us towards upcoming grants and introducing us to strategic contacts. WBC has also promoted personal development opportunities as we look forward to an exciting new stage in the business.”
