Worcestershire businesses are being made aware of the Food from England organisation which can help amplify the needs of the sector.
Food from England is a national platform of 26 regional food and drink organisations representing over 5000 local independent growers, producers, retailers and hospitality businesses. The aim of Food from England is to give these inspirational food and drink businesses a united voice whilst encouraging the consumer to support them by shopping, eating and drinking local.
However many food and drink businesses are facing increasing pressures due to the rising costs of imported ingredients and materials, supply chain issues, continuing staffing shortages and skyrocketing energy and fuel prices.
Food from England have recognised this pressure and have launched a campaign “Don’t Lose it, Use it!” earlier in November, with the aim of inspiring customers to shop locally where possible to support local food and drink businesses. The campaign will also bring together many local partners to help amplify the message about supporting local food and drink businesses to reach as wide an audience as possible.
One of the founding Food from England members John Farrand, managing director, Guild of Fine Food, organisers of Great Taste, said: “The past eight months have seen disaster and innovation within the regional food and drink sector, possibly in equal measure.
“Consumers across the country are now realising the importance of connections across the food and drink supply chain, between makers, retailers and consumers – connections that have suddenly become more urgent, closer, simpler and friendly as a result of coronavirus.
“We have witnessed the rise and fall of our artisan cheesemakers and watched with sadness as our cousins in food service saw their trade plummet overnight. This has been balanced by independent retailers attracting new customers, adopting the internet as a tool to keep them, and unearthing previously unknown suppliers from their area to broaden the retail offer.”
