Theresa May’s latest reshuffle has seen the county become well represented in government with four Worcestershire MPs being given key roles.
Excitingly, two of our MPs are involved in the two new departments which have been created in light of Brexit. Robin Walker MP for Worcester is a junior minister in the Department for Exiting the European Union, led by David Davis. This new department is dedicated to getting the most out of Brexit. Mark Garnier MP for the Wyre Forest has also taken up a role in the Department for International Trade under Liam Fox MP. It is great to see two local, highly committed MPs seriously involved in the future of the United Kingdom.
Bromsgrove MP and previous Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), Sajid Javid, has transferred roles to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. This follows the dissolution and replacement of BIS with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, in which Jesse Norman MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire now has a role. Harriett Baldwin MP for West Worcestershire has also been moved from the Treasury and is now Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence.
Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce knows the importance and value of a strong bond between our elected representatives and the local business community. We look forward to continuing to work with our MPs and support them to tackle key business issues in Worcestershire.
